Capital Indoor Flea Market Offers an Inexpensive Alternative to Commercial Shopping for the HolidaysRecycling Usable Goods into the Marketplace Gives Affordable Solutions to Tight Budgets and Answers the Call to Reduce Consumer WasteDecember 10, 2009 - Santa Fe, NM – Capital Indoor Flea Market, located at 2869 Trades West Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87507, has taken up the challenge to offer quality new and used consumer goods at affordable prices by making space available to individuals and vendors who sell usable recycled personal and household items at a fraction of retail prices. Open Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Capital Indoor Flea Market is giving buyers a viable alternative to expensive department stores and low-quality discount chains. Recent consumer studies have shown that a wise shopper can obtain high-quality, like-new clothing, small and large appliances, tools, sports equipment and other household items at a fraction of their original costs without sacrificing serviceability, style, or longevity of use -- which increases the cost-to-value ratio. This emerging trend of Americans buying used products is apparent at Capital Indoor Flea Market, as evidenced by the variety of shoppers coming through its doors – people of all ages from all walks of life. Flea market shopping is no longer an activity practiced by the elderly and lower-income populations. As one customer said, “I just bought a cashmere sweater for five dollars! It looked like it was never worn. To think I might have paid a hundred for this new! No one will know the difference.!” The Indoor Flea Market is also challenging the Santa Fe Community to “put its money where its conscience is” by recycling usable products back into circulation rather than disposing serviceable articles into dumps and landfills. This practice also helps to sustain the local economy at a grass-roots level, and many citizens are jumping onto the bandwagon of “reuse and restore.” As one regular vendor stated, “My friends and neighbors are giving me items on consignment because they don’t want to see good things go to waste, plus they’re making some extra cash without having to set up a stand or put an ad in the paper.” The economy being what it is, people are also turning to barter and trade for both small and large items, and the Indoor Flea Market offers a venue for them to carry out this practice. A recent transaction took place with a shopper needing a larger dining set for his expanding family, but he could not afford to purchase even a used set of table and chairs. He was able to trade a smaller dining set plus some electronics he wasn’t using for the larger set he needed. The vendor was then able to sell the smaller set and electronics to other shoppers. It was a win-win situation. Capital Indoor Flea Market is the brainchild of Liz Martinez and her son, Mark, who is vice president of Capital Moving & Storage which houses the flea market. The idea to have an indoor flea market occurred in the early spring of 2009 when Liz posted a notice to sell items abandoned by some of Capital's clients. The response was overwhelming and others asked if they could sell their items as well. Soon the Indoor Flea Market became a weekly event and continues to grow with new vendors signing on weekly. Special Note: Capital Indoor Flea Market will be open on Thursday, December 24, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to accommodate last-minute Christmas shopping. The Indoor Flea Market will be closed on Saturday, December 26 and Sunday, December 27 to give our associates time to spend the holiday with family and friends. We will re-open with regular hours on Saturday, January 2, 2010 and Sunday, January 3, 2010. # # # |

This special Friday date is in addition to its regular weekend (Saturday and Sunday) sales days. Saturday hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm; Sunday hours are 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Fabulous and funky may be the words that best describe the Capital Indoor Flea Market of Santa Fe, NM. Tucked away in the Capital Moving and Storage warehouse in the midst of the industrial area on Trades West Rd., its outer appearance gives no hint of the treasures within. Each Saturday and Sunday vendors display their merchandise in true flea market style, selling everything from antiques and handicrafts to brand spanking new knives, leather bags, toys and holiday decorations. A thrifty shopper can find something to suit his or her needs and budget. A great feature of Capital Indoor Flea Market, in addition to being indoors and away from the changeable New Mexico weather, is that its large space accommodates over-sized items such as sofas, beds, entertainment centers, washers, dryers, dish washers and dining sets among other large items. If you've got a good eye, you can find original works of art hanging next to mass-produced prints -- and get a bargain to boot. Against a backdrop of large, hunkering storage crates, a person can find new linens, gently-worn blue jeans, Waterford crystal, vinyl records, over-stuffed claw-foot chairs, recliners, DVDs and players, TVs, children’s clothes, arts and crafts, and many quality new but low-priced items! Capital Indoor Flea Market is the brainchild of Liz Eddings and her son, Mark Martinez, who is vice president of Capital Moving & Storage which houses the flea market. The idea to have an indoor flea market occurred in the early spring of 2009 when Liz posted a notice to sell items abandoned by some of Capital's clients.
